Volleyball Starts Home Opener with a Sweep Against York

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • On Thursday night, Nebraska Wesleyan (8-5, 0-0 A-R-C) defeated York by set scores of 25-15, 25-17, and 25-11 to win its first match at home.
  • NWU swept its third-straight opponent and totaled the seventh sweep of the season. The Prairie Wolves had a productive night at the net, hitting .337 while restricting York to a .031 percentage. For Nebraska Wesleyan, it is their fourth match of 2023 to hit over.300.
  • The win marks Rayna Cain's 160th victory overall.
  • Elecea Saathoff, a freshman setter, also accomplished a significant feat by surpassing 400 career assists. Saathoff entered the contest 18 off the mark and earned 34 over the course of the three sets.
  • Addie Thomas had 13 kills at. 370 hitting in another game with 10-plus kills. She also secured a double-double racking in 18 digs on the match, moving her over 550 in her career. With 11 kills and a .563 average, Molly Ramirez was the second Prairie Wolf to reach double figures.
  • The Prairie Wolf defense shined as Aliah Clarke led the match with four blocks. 
  • After Ramirez's second kill in the first set, the Prairie Wolves led 8-3. The Panthers would cut the lead of NWU to four at 15-11, but Nebraska Wesleyan would respond with an 8-2 run to increase their advantage to ten (23-13).  Jaclyn Riedl's second slam would end the set with NWU ahead 25-15 as the team hit at .323.
  • To start the second set, York had a 5-3 advantage. At nine, there would be a tie in the set. NWU kept it rolling taking four straight with Saathoff at the service line, recording an ace to make it 13-9. After hitting over .300 once again in the set, NWU maintained its advantage and went up 2-0 in the contest.
  • Saathoff's sneaky dump kill brought the third to a score of 4-3, before the Prairie Wolves tacked on four more to go up 8-3. The Prairie Wolves then went on a 3-0 run, highlighted by an ace by Kobie Patten, to take a 14-6 lead. The match would end at 25-11 to seal the victory.
