Football Starts Fast, Holds Late in Victory Over Simpson

Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. (September 16, 2023) - Nebraska Wesleyan moved to 3-0 on Saturday, following a 21-13 victory over Simpson College. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both offenses struggled out of the gate as neither team scored on their opening drive. After forcing Simpson to punt on their second drive, the Prairie Wolves embarked on an 11 play, 80 yard drive that concluded with a 16 yard touchdown pass from Carter Terry to Cole Siems.
  • Following a scoreless stretch to begin the second quarter, the Nebraska Wesleyan offense got the ball back at their own 26 yard line. After moving to the 48 yard line, Carter Terry completed a 52 yard pass touchdown pass to Jaheim Felder, which gave the Prairie Wolves a 14-0 lead.
  • Both defenses tightened up following the touchdown and the game remained 14-0 heading into halftime.
  • On Nebraska Wesleyan's second drive of the second half, Nathan Athouris scampered 68 yards to put the Prairie Wolves up 21-0. No other scores occurred in the third quarter and the score remained 21-0 as the game shifted to the fourth.
  • On Simpson's first drive of the fourth quarter, the Storm marched 81 yards in eight plays and scored on a 31 yard pass from J Jenson III to Reed Worth. The extra point was no good and score remained 21-6.
  • After picking off Carter Terry, the Storm were set up with a short field. They quickly took advantage capping off a seven play, 25 yard drive with a nine yard touchdown pass from J Jenson III to Desmond Alexander. 
  • After forcing a three and out, the Storm got the ball back with a chance to tie the game. Simpson went to work driving to the Nebraska Wesleyan 24 yard line. On second and ten, Eli Mackowski picked off J Jenson III to give the Prairie Wolves the ball with just over two minutes remaining.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan ran out the clock on their final drive to remain unbeaten.
