Volleyball Splits Matches on Opening Day at the Pacific Coast Classic

Chapman

  • In the Prairie Wolves' opening match at the Pacific Coast Classic against Chapman on Friday afternoon, Nebraska Wesleyan rallied to force a decisive fifth set before losing heartbreakingly.
  • On Friday, Nebraska Wesleyan fell in the opening set 25-21 before winning in the second and fourth sets to Chapman.  In the final set, the two teams battled back and forth before Chapman pulled away to win 15-9.
  • With 23 kills, three blocks, and 18 digs on Friday, Addie Thomas paced the Prairie Wolves. Elecea Saathoff recorded a double-double as she passed out 44 of the Prairie Wolves' 49 assists and collected 10 digs of her own.  Saathoff also added four service aces. Nyah Chambers led the Prairie Wolves' defense at the net with five blocks.

Occidental

  • The Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball team jumped out of the gates Friday afternoon and never looked back as the Prairie Wolves swept Occidental as part of the Pacific Coast Classic.
  • Set one was back-and-forth in the early going as the teams traded early points, the Prairie Wolves opened up what was a three-point advantage with a 3-0 run to extend the lead to 20-14 behind a kill from Molly Ramirez. Jaclyn Riedl's three kills and two attacking errors by Occidental helped the Prairie Wolves seal the set with a 5-3 run.
  • In set two, Nebraska Wesleyan pulled out to an early lead, scoring six of the opening nine points, and went on to lead 11-7 before the Tigers battled back. Nebraska Wesleyan rallied from a 16–14 deficit to win the set 25–21 after an 11–5 surge. 
  • In set three, the Prairie Wolves scored eight of the opening nine points and never looked back. They then went on another three-point run to increase their lead to 21-9 thanks to a kill from Aliah Clarke. The match was ultimately won by the Prairie Wolves 25–18.
  • Nyah Chambers, a fifth-year senior, and Molly Ramirez, a freshman, led Nebraska Wesleyan's offensive attack on Friday with ten kills each, while junior Addie Thomas just missed double digits with nine kills. The Prairie Wolves ended the afternoon hitting.158 as a team overall, with a.205 percentage in the third set. Occidental, on the other hand, managed just a .079 team average. Elecea Saathoff recorded a second straight double-double, contributing 15 digs and 38 of the Prairie Wolves' 43 assists, while Thomas recorded a match-high 20 digs.
