University of Northwestern (MN)
  • On Tuesday afternoon, Nebraska Wesleyan defeated the University of Northwestern (MN) 4-3 to rebound and raise their record to 6-4.
  • In the bottom of the first, NWU gained an early advantage over the Eagles by going up 3-0.  The Prairie Wolves got their offense started when Val Gerlach doubled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run. Jenna Kimberling then hit an RBI single bringing in Paige Davidson. Later in the inning, Gerlach would reach home to finish the three-run first inning.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, NWU added an insurance run on an RBI from Addie Duranski, which allowed Kimberling to reach home and make the score 4-0.
  • The Prairie Wolves would then go on to do a nice job closing out the game in the final innings, keeping their composure and getting out of tough situations thanks to some nice pitching work from senior Elise Warneke. The Eagles were able to score one run in the fifth, and two in the sixth, but ultimately Nebraska Wesleyan hung on to win, 4-3.
  • For Nebraska Wesleyan, Warneke received the start and the victory. In seven innings and 30 total at-bats, she threw a complete game, getting eight strikeouts while giving up just nine hits and one earned run.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE HEAD COACH MARY YORI'S COMMENTS
  • "It was great to bounce back after the defeat to last year's Division III runner-up."
  • "We didn't play our best game, but really responded against a good Northwestern (MN) team. Elise pitched a great game and went the distance, keeping us in it after we got out to the 4-0 lead."
UP NEXT
