Cheer and Dance Shine at A-R-C Competition

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nebraska Wesleyan placed second overall in the American Rivers Conference Cheer and Dance Championships held at Simpson College. The black and gold fell 1.5 points shy from clinching their first ever conference championship
  • The Prairie Wolves took home first place in the Dance-Pom division with a score of 80.17. The individuals involved include, Delaney Fitzke, Madison Hallett, Catherine Newsom, Carli Shandera, Jocelyn Bergt, Bethany Krenzer, Eden Schmit, and Carsyn O'Hare.
  • A second place finish was earned by the NWU squad in the Dance-Jazz division with 71.83 as a score.
  • A score of 63.33 was good enough to capture a fourth place finish for the Prairie Wolves in the Dance-Hip Hop category. 
  • NWU cheer shined in the Gameday category with a score of 75.13 earning a runner-up finish.
  • For the second year in a row, sophomore Madi Witcig earned 1st Team All-Conference with a total score of 21.38 in the Dance department.
HEAD COACH TERRY LANGE'S COMMENTS
  • "Both teams performed very well. The long hours that they put in over the last five weeks paid off."
  • "The sport of cheer and dance has changed drastically over the last 5-10 years. You are seeing better coaches and the athletes are coming from very good high school programs. Now with the A-R-C recognizing cheer and dance as a varsity sport, the competition is becoming very competitive."
  • "All in all, I am very proud of these young ladies. The 2nd semester is very difficult and as coaches, we ask a lot out of them. For them to keep up their academics as well as perform at a high level, I couldn't have asked for anything more."
