Lincoln, Neb- The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team (0-5) lost a close comeback attempt to Nebraska rival Bellevue (3-4) Tuesday night in Snyder Arena. After an exciting series of events that favored Bellevue, the final score was 57-49.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The leading scorer for Nebraska Wesleyan, Ellie Bream, scored eight first half points and grabbed four rebounds. Bream went on to tie her season high with 18 points and a season-high seven rebounds.
- Brianna Denton finished with 10 points and three rebounds while shooting 40% from the three-point-throw line.
- Bellevue led 16-4 at the half, having led by as much as 13 points in the first 20 minutes.
- The Prairie Wolves fought back from the deficit and reduced it to eight by the half. Bream opened the quarter with a free throw after Bellevue committed an administrative technical foul. With 6:43 remaining in the second, Denton sank a three-point jumper to make the score 19-11. The Bruins answered with a 7-3 run, forcing the Prairie Wolves to come back from a 26-14 deficit with 3:13 left. Denton then executed a brilliant play to force a score of 26-16. The score at halftime was 29-21.
- After outscoring BU 17-13 in the second quarter, Coach Bullock and the Prairie Wolves limited BU to 10 points in the third quarter and outscored them by 5. Bream started the second half on a high note, hitting a turnaround jumper to put NWU on the board. The Prairie Wolves, riding the momentum, cut the lead to three points at the end of the third quarter, 39-36.
- Bream scored the opening basket of the fourth quarter, putting her team down one for the first time in the game. The rest of the game went in the Bruins' favor. 57-49.
