Volleyball Downs Buena Vista in Straight Sets

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In Snyder Arena on Tuesday night, the Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball team swept the Buena Vista Beavers.
  • The Prairie Wolves improve to 14-6 on the year and 4-0 in the A-R-C, while the Beavers fall to 6-12 overall and 0-4 in the league.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan won the opening set 25-15, then won the second set 25-16 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Prairie Wolves won the last set 25-18 to end the game and improve to 4-0 in the A-R-C.
  • For Nebraska Wesleyan, Addie Thomas was the offensive standout, leading the team with 16 kills and a .419 average. She has now had at least 10 kills in six straight matches and this was her fifteenth game with double-digit kills. This was also Thomas'  ninth double-double of the season and her third straight match with a double-double. Jaclyn Riedl came in second with 11 kills at a .550 clip.
  • Elecea Saathoff contributed 36 assists to the team's .360 hitting percentage over the three-set match. In the triumph, Raegan Holle contributed three more assists.
  • As a squad, the Prairie Wolves tallied 3.0 blocks at the net. Aliah Clarke led Nebraska Wesleyan with a three-block effort. Thomas added two more in the win.
  • The backcourt was led by Addie Thomas, who finished the game with a team-high 10 digs. That moves her to 631 for her career. After Thomas, Lauren Maciejewski contributed seven digs.
  • Kiley Elkins had two aces during the evening behind the serving line.
  • When the first set was tied at 2 all, the Prairie Wolves went on an immediate 12-6 surge to take the lead at 14-8. The Prairie Wolves finished the period by triumphing 25-15. The first set saw Nebraska Wesleyan hit a scorching .333, powered by five kills from Thomas and three from Molly Ramirez.
  • The opening moments of the second set were competitive, but Nebraska Wesleyan went on a run to take the lead 9-5. With the help of a Ramirez kill, Nebraska Wesleyan increased their advantage to 18-11. The set would be won by the Prairie Wolves 25-16. In the second set, Thomas led with six kills, followed by Riedl with five.
  • In the third set, Nebraska Wesleyan seized the lead at 13-10.  After that, the Prairie Wolves maintained control, triumphing 25-18 to complete the sweep. In the final set, Nebraska Wesleyan hit .424 with five kills from Thomas leading the way. To seal the victory, Ramirez and Riedl both added four.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan has now tied the overall series with Buena Vista at 8-8.
  • The Prairie Wolves are now 12-2 in three-set matches during the 2023 campaign
