Women's Basketball Beats Buena Vista to Snap Losing Streak

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nebraska Wesleyan knocked off Buena Vista 73-65 Wednesday evening. The victory snapped a 10 game losing streak and was the second conference win of the year.
  • The first quarter was very contested, The Prairie Wolves jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Beavers responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead. The two teams continued trading punches for the remainder of the quarter. Neither team could take control and the first frame ended in a 14-14 tie.
  • The style of play in the second quarter was a continuation of the first with Buena Vista and Nebraska Wesleyan going score for score with each other. Ellie Bream led the way for the Prairie Wolves in the second quarter, scoring eight points, grabbing two rebounds and picking up a steal. Nebraska Wesleyan took a narrow 35-33 lead into Halftime.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan seemed to gain some separation in the early moments of the third quarter thanks to a pair of threes from Sarah Hultquist. Brianna Denton stretched the lead to eight with a three pointer mid way through the quarter. The Prairie Wolves shot 71 percent from three during the quarter. However following Denton's three, Buena Vista stiffened up on defense, found a rhythm on offense and rallied back to make it a 54-52 game heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The fourth quarter required a great amount of grit to secure the win. After battling it out for the first couple minutes, Buena Vista took a three point lead. The Prairie Wolves responded by going on an 11-0 run to close the game and secure the win.
