Dutch Pull Away From Prairie Wolves

LINCOLN, Neb. (February 2, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team fell to Central College, 58-46, in Snyder Arena.

A slow start was too much for the Prairie Wolves to overcome. NWU was held scoreless for the first five and half minutes of the games and only netted seven points in the opening quarter. But nine straight points from Anna Vandenack jolted Nebraska Wesleyan back in the game. Vandenack's run made it a one-point game at the 6:45 mark in the second quarter. However, Central countered with a 14-0 run for a 34-19 halftime advantage.

The Prairie Wolves didn't need to overcome a slow start in the second half. After a Dutch jumper opened the half, NWU responded with a quick 8-0 run that took less than two minutes off the clock. The stretch helped Nebraska Wesleyan outscore Central 16-10 in the third quarter.

The momentum carried into the fourth quarter, Delaney Roberts cashed in a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 51-44 with under four minutes left. But similar to the game trend, the Dutch answered with a three-pointer of their own to push the lead back to 10 points. Again, NWU cut it to eight points on a pair of free throws by Sarah Hultquist. However, Central scored the game's final four points.

Anna Vandenack led the Prairie Wolves with 11 points, Vandenack's third straight game of 11 points or more. Delaney Roberts added in 10 points with four assists. Roberts has scored double-digit points with two or more assists in each of the last seven games.

Defensively, NWU forced Central into 21 turnovers to make it back-to-back opponents committing 20 or more turnovers,
