BVU Defeats NWU Wrestling

STORM LAKE, Iowa (February 16, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan wrestling fell on the road, 42-6, to Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa.

In the final regular-season dual of the 2021-2022 season, NWU picked up back-to-back wins from Travis Guzman at 157lbs and Zeth Gerkensmeyer at 165lbs. Both wins were by decisions.

Guzman used a big second period to propel himself to victory. In the second period, Guzman gave up a point on an escape but turned it into a six-point swing. After the escape, Guzman recorded a takedown then pressed it into a four-point nearfall before holding onto win by a 6-4 margin.

Gerkensmeyer was in a back-and-forth match heading into the third period tied at 5-5. But the final period was dominated by Gerkensmeyer as he recorded two takedowns and closed out the match with a two-point nearfall for an 11-7 victory. With the win, Gerkensmeyer registered his third win in the last three conference duals.

Both Christian Deherrera and Jared Gallub were narrowly defeated by a score of 8-4. Below are the scores for each Nebraska Wesleyan wrestler.
