Prairie Wolves Tussle With Storm, Spartans In Home Finale

LINCOLN, Neb. (February 12, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan wrestling team hosted its final home duals of the 2021-2022 season Saturday afternoon at Snyder Arena. NWU fell to Simpson, 42-3, and Dubuque, 43-3 in the two duals.

In the first dual of the day, Zeth Gerkensmeyer recorded a win for the Prairie Wolves against Simpson. In an aggressive, back and forth battle at 165 lbs, Gerkensmeyer was able to get an escape then turned it into a takedown and registered a four-point near fall in the second period. Gerkensmeyer rode the momentum to a 12-6 decision for the victory.

Gerkensmeyer also notched a win at 165 lbs in the next dual against Dubuque. Gerkensmeyer controlled the match from beginning to end but a takedown late in the third period secured the victory with a 5-2 decision. NWU's Jared Gallub nearly took the match at 149 lbs. Gallub was locked in a tight tussle, tied at eight points late in the third period when the Spartans scored a takedown. Gallub quickly got an escape but ran out of time before he could register a take down and win the match.
