Volleyball Drops Match to Dubuque, 3-1

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the opening set, the Nebraska Wesleyan defense played flawlessly, limiting Dubuque to a.049 hitting percentage. The Prairie Wolves led 18-15 before using a 9-1 run to win the first set 25-16.
  • In the second set, senior Nyah Chambers recorded three kills. The teams traded points early in the set, but Dubuque utilized an 8-0 run to go in front, 18-12. Although Addie Thomas scored three kills toward the end of the set, the Spartans managed to hold on and win 25-22.
  • The Prairie Wolves and Spartans battled, and the third and fourth sets were both decided by only two points apiece. In the third, there were nine ties between the teams and three lead changes. Addie Thomas and Mackenzie Scurto were the offensive leaders in the third. Thomas pounded a kill to tie the set at 23-23, but Dubuque notched two straight to take the set. 
  • Midway through the fourth, Dubuque had a 14-11 lead, but Nebraska Wesleyan rallied back. A 5-0 run to take the lead included kills by Chambers, Thomas, and Shae Gallery. A pair of Prairie Wolf kills and two Dubuque errors helped Nebraska Wesleyan go up one, 23-22. In a loud Snyder Arena, the Spartans managed to score three points to win the match. 25-23.
