Prairie Wolves Clipped By Beavers In Home Opener

LINCOLN, Neb. (September 29, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball finally made its home debut after 11 consecutive matches on the road. The Prairie Wolves were defeated by Buena Vista, 3-2, in a nail-biting match.

BVU took the early lead with a 25-20 win in the first set. NWU responded with a 25-23 victory in the second set then put the Beavers on the rope with a 25-22 third-set win. Nebraska Wesleyan looked liked it would pull away in the fourth set, leading 23-21, but Buena Vista answered with four straight points to force a winner-take-all fifth set.

In the fifth set, the Prairie Wolves raced out to a 4-1 advantage, the Beavers then countered with an 8-2 rally. NWU rallied back to cut the margin to one point, 13-12. However, back-to-back points allowed BVU to escape Snyder Arena with the win.

Addie Thomas led the Nebraska Wesleyan attack with 21 kills. Kennady Klein was red hot at the service line for the Prairie Wolves, finishing with a match-high five aces. Defensively, Nyah Chambers recorded three blocks. Klein and Mackenzie Scurto each tallied 20 digs for NWU.

NWU was originally scheduled to open the season at home on September 1 against College of St. Scholastica but the match was canceled due to health and safety concerns within the Saints program.
