NWU Battles Back To Win Game Two Against BVU On Senior Day

LINCOLN, Neb. (May 14, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan baseball (12-27, 10-22 A-R-C) split its doubleheaders with Buena Vista (19-21, 15-17 A-R-C) on Senior Day at NWU Field. The Prairie Wolves fell in game one, 7-2, then rallied back to win game two, 6-4. The win in game two gave Nebraska Wesleyan head coach John Rypel his 150th career win as a head coach.

Game One Recap
The Prairie Wolves took an early first-inning lead when John Haimowitz plated Derek Kolbush with a single. BVU tied the game with a run in the third but NWU regained the lead in the fourth. Mason Bennett reached base on a fielder's choice which allowed Alex Angele to score the go-ahead run.

However, the Beavers would be too much down the stretch with two runs in the fifth then four runs in the seventh.

Game Two Recap
Derek Kolbush moved up the Nebraska Wesleyan single-season home run charts with a solo home run in the first inning. It was Kolbush's ninth home run of the season, which is tied for third-most for a season in program history.

After Buena Vista answered back, and also took the lead, with a pair of runs in the second inning, NWU tied the game in the fourth inning with two runs. A Beavers' error allowed Aaron Nichols to score and put Daniel Hundley on third base. Hundley then cashed in on a wild pitch to even the game up at three runs apiece.

The back-and-forth battle continued when BVU hit a home run in the fifth inning and regained the lead. But the Prairie Wolves had the final punch with a run in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.

John Haimowitz tied the game with a run from a Will Schneidewind double in the sixth. In the seventh, Mason Bennett was plated on a sacrifice fly from Kaleb Knox for the go-ahead run. Alex Angele added the insurance run in the eighth on a fielder's choice to secure the win.
