Scoring Barrage Leaves Little Doubt As Prairie Wolves Race Past Beavers

LINCOLN, Neb. (April 3, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team (2-2, 2-2 A-R-C) defeated Buena Vista (0-4, 0-4 A-R-C), 6-0, for its first shutout of the spring season. The six goals scored by NWU are the most since September 8, 2019, when it beat Northland College, 6-0.

The Prairie Wolves scored nearly 15 minutes into the game when Hannah Rhodes netted the game's first goal in the 14th minute on a pass from Megan Cooper. Simone Collins added another goal to the total when she found the target on a pass from Lauren Keith. It was the first goal of the game and season for Collins. NWU got on the board for the last time in the first half, in the 39th minute, when Hannah Ghannam scored her second goal of the season, assisted by Sarah Thavenet.

Nebraska Wesleyan didn't let up in the second half as it scored three more goals. Suzie McDonald notched her first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 47th minute of action. McDonald then added her second goal of the game in the 76th minute when she placed a pass from Megan Cooper on target. Less than a minute later, Ashley Hyde drilled the final goal of the game and her first of the season on a pass from Hannah Ernst.

It is NWU's seventh straight win against BVU; since joining the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C), it has not conceded a goal to the Beavers. It is also the largest margin of victory under head coach Jen Dyson in the series.

Defensively, the Prairie Wolves backline allowed just three shots the entire game with no shots on goal. On the other side of the field, Nebraska Wesleyan was credited with 46 shots, 25 of those were on goal.
