Volleyball Rallies To Take Thriller At Simpson


DUBUQUE, Iowa. (March 10, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball (3-3, 3-3 A-R-C) defeated Simpson College (1-4, 1-4 A-R-C) in five-sets 22-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-17, 16-14 to pick up its third win in the last four matches.

Facing a 2-1 match deficit, the Prairie Wolves rallied back to win the last two sets. In the fifth set, the Storm had NWU on the ropes as they served game point but a service error evened the match at 14-14. Nebraska Wesleyan wouldn't waste the opportunity as it turned to Hannah Domandle to propel them to victory. Domandle smacked down back-to-back kills to finish off the comeback. 

The Prairie Wolves forced the decisive fifth set after cruising to victory in set four. An 11-1 stretch allowed NWU to pull away in the fourth after back-to-back points by Simpson. During the rally, Kelsie Stovall served seven consecutive points to help distance Nebraska Wesleyan. 

Set one went to the Storm after they fought off a late charge, which included a 4-1 rally by NWU. The Prairie Wolves raced out to six straight points, with Nyah Chambers at the service line, to start off the second set and never looked back as they tied the match at one set apiece. Simpson countered a 9-2 run by Nebraska Wesleyan in the third set with a 6-2 rally before the teams traded points back and forth to close out the set.

Notable Stats and Performances
-Nebraska Wesleyan has won five consecutive matches against Simpson, with three of those matches going five-sets.
-Hannah Domandle led the Prairie Wolves with a double-double as she recorded 19 digs and a match-high 18 kills.
-Grace Hogeland tallied 20 assists, which set a new season-high for her.
-Julia Salerno was credited for seven blocks, the most in her Nebraska Wesleyan career.
-Kelsie Stovall finished wuth 17 digs, her highest total this season.
