Buena Vista Outlasts Women’s Basketball

LINCOLN, Neb. (February 24, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team fell to Buena Vista (2-5, 2-5 A-R-C), 65-54, in Snyder Arena. The loss snapped NWU's four-game winning streak over BVU.

The opening quarter went back-and-forth as the largest lead by either team was two points. The Prairie Wolves shot 42.9 percent from the field and held a two-point advantage at the end of the quarter when Johanna Vandenack sank a jumper with two seconds left.

The teams again traded baskets throughout the second quarter when Paige Ravenscroft nailed a three-pointer with 3:22 left to break a 21-21 tie. The basket by Ravenscroft was also the largest lead for either team to that point. Delaney Roberts would again tie the game for NWU on a free-throw with 18 seconds but a BVU jumper right before the half ended gave them a two-point halftime advantage.

In the third quarter, the teams continued to swap points as they each scored 11 points. The Prairie Wolves defense held the Beavers without a three-pointer in the quarter. Buena Vista used a big fourth quarter-scoring run to finally break the back-and-forth tussle and pull away from Nebraska Wesleyan, who played its third game in five days.

Ravenscroft led NWU with 13 points as she did not miss a shot in nearly 23 minutes of action. She was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field, including three three-pointers. It was her second consecutive game of scoring in double-digits.
