Women's Basketball Comes Up Short On The Road Despite Fourth Quarter Rally


CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. (February 27, 2021) - Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball fell at Coe College (6-3, 5-2 A-R-C), 64-54. Johanna Vandenack recorded her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

The Kohawks jumped out to an early lead after a 16-2 run and led 17-11 after four first-quarter three-pointers. The Prairie Wolves bounced back with a 13-1 run and outscored Coe, 16-11, in the second quarter to trail by just one at halftime. In the second-quarter, NWU limited Coe to shoot just 16.7 percent from the three-point line. Delaney Roberts scored nine of her season-best 18 points in the first half. 

Nebraska Wesleyan carried the momentum it closed the first half to open with a 9-2 third-quarter run and held a 34-30 lead with just over seven minutes left in the third quarter. Coe outscored NWU 11-4 over the next 4:26 and went into the fourth quarter with a six-point advantage. The Duhawks extended their lead to 12 points in the fourth before a three-pointer by Avery Halliday with 6:15 left in the game started a 10-2 rally to cut the deficit to four points with four minutes remaining. However, a scoring drought the rest of the away allowed Coe to pull away for the win.

Notable Stats and Performances
-Johanna Vandenack scored 15 points, she has now scored in double-digits in five of the last six games.
-Vandenack's 14 rebounds are the most by a Prairie Wolf this season.
-Delaney Roberts and Vandenack combined to go 11-for-13 at the free-throw line for NWU.
-Roberts finished with five steals, her fourth game of the season with at least four steals.
-Coe's Jackie Feldt had a game-high 24 points.

Nebraska Wesleyan awaits seeding for the American Rivers Conference Tournament which will be announced at a later date.
