Volleyball Returns To The Court, Turned Away By Loras In Season-Opener

LINCOLN, Neb. (February 19, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball team returned to the court after a 15-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 Global Health Pandemic. In the 2021 spring season opener, NWU was turned away by Loras College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-10), at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.

In the opening set, the teams traded early points but the Duhawks used a couple of runs to distance themselves. The Prairie Wolves rattled off multiple three-point runs to cut into the deficit but never could gain enough momentum to turn the tide in their favor. Hannah Domandle and Lauren Maciejewski each knocked in three kills for Nebraska Wesleyan in their first set as Prairie Wolves.

The second set started with another back and forth tussle early as neither team led by more than a point until a 5-2 rally by Loras. NWU countered with a 6-0 run when Kelsie Stovall was at the service line to make it a one-point match, 17-18. A few points later, Nyah Chambers again put the Prairie Wolves within a point, 22-21, with her second ace of the match then a kill by Maciejewski answered an LC point to put it back to a one-point margin, 23-22. However, it wouldn't be enough to spark a late rally as Loras produced back-to-back kills to close out the set and take a 2-0 match lead.

In the third set, the Prairie Wolves ran out of gas and the Duhawks took advantage to win the final set. 25-10.
