Second-Half Defense Leads Prairie Wolves Past Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa (November 13, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team picked up a, 68-56, win at Grinnell College. NWU allowed just five points in the fourth quarter to secure its second straight win.

An offensive show highlighted the first-half before the Prairie Wolves cranked up their defense. Nebraska Wesleyan trailed 23-20 after the first quarter despite outshooting Grinnell. Both teams cooled down a little bit scoring wise in the second-quarter as they combined for 29 points. NWU shot 45.5 percent from the field in the second frame.

In the second-half, Nebraska Wesleyan found a defensive spark. Grinnell was held to just 21.7 percent from the field in the third quarter and only 16.7 percent in the four quarter. NWU also did not put the Pioneers on the free-throw line in the second-half and took advantage of it going 10-for-12 at the free-throw line in the last 20 minutes.

Anna Vandenack paced a balanced attack for the Prairie Wolves. Vandenack had 16 points and was a perfect 100 percent at the free-throw stripe. Brianna Denton added 14 points and also did not miss a free-throw. Delaney Roberts recorded a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds; Robert's 14 rebounds are a career-high. Ellie Bream came off the bench to chip in 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
