Volleyball Falls In Opening Match Of Sutphen Invitational


PELLA, Iowa (October 29, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball team fell to Monmouth, 3-0, to open the Sutphen Invitational in Pella, Iowa. 

In the first set, Monmouth used an early run to race out to a 1-0 match lead. The second set saw the Prairie Wolves use a late 5-1 rally to tie the set at 24. But the late momentum wasn't able to be sustained and Monmouth won the set, 28-26. Down 2-0, Nyah Chambers served seven straight points midway through the third set. However, it would not be enough as the Fighting Scots ended the match with four consecutive points.
 
Addie Thomas had a match-best 13 kills for Nebraska Wesleyan. Chambers served up a pair of aces and recorded four block assists. Erica Hopping recorded a double-double with 24 assists and 19 digs.

Nebraska Wesleyan closes out the season with two more matches at the Sutphen Invitational in Pella, Iowa. NWU plays Iowa Wesleyan at 12:30 p.m. followed by Illinois College at 3 p.m.
