Fourth Quarter Run Not Enough For Women’s Basketball

DUBUQUE, Iowa - (January 30, 2020) - The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball fell on the road to the University of Dubuque (3-4, 2-1 A-R-C) 65-52. NWU's Johanna Vandenack recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the contest.

The Prairie Wolves scored a season-best 16 first-quarter points as they hit five field goals and shot 66.7 percent at the free-throw line. However, cold shooting in the second quarter halted the momentum as Nebraska Wesleyan shot 23.1 percent from the field in the quarter. The Spartans connected on three three-pointers in the first quarter before NWU held them to just one in the second quarter.

In the second half, the Prairie Wolves cut the deficit to six points with a 16-8 run midway through the third quarter, ignited by a Jazmine Glenn three-pointer just 22 seconds into the half. However, Nebraska Wesleyan couldn't close the gap any further as it was held scoreless the rest of the quarter. NWU cut the lead down to six points again in the fourth quarter after an Ashley Heyen lay-up sparked an 11-3 run with 3:34 left in the game. Despite the run, Dubuque pulled away by scoring the game's final seven points.
