Women’s Basketball Drops First Road Contest Of The Season


INDIANOLA, IOWA (January 27, 2021) - The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team (0-2, 0-2 A-R-C) fell to Simpson College (2-0, 1-0 A-R-C). It was the first road contest of the 2020-21 season for the Prairie Wolves.

A slow first quarter, which saw NWU shoot just 16.7 percent from the field, was too much to overcome for the Prairie Wolves. In the second quarter, Nebraska Wesleyan found an offensive groove as it shot 53.3 percent from the field in the second quarter. The second quarter also saw NWU net 18 points, the second most in a quarter this season. Simpson opened the game with a 20-0 run and built a 55-23 halftime lead. SC also connected on six three-pointers in the first quarter to help aid their lead.

In the third quarter, NWU was limited to just three field goals and 10 points but did not allow a Simpson three-pointer. The defense continued in the final quarter as the Prairie Wolves limited the Storm to just 14 points, its lowest output in a quarter season. NWU was able to chip away at the lead over the last 10 minutes as it outscored SC 15-14 behind a 50 percent shooting percentage.

Notable Stats and Performances
- Jazmine Glenn led Nebraska Wesleyan with 13 points on 5-11 shooting from the floor and three steals. Paige Ravenscroft and Johanna Vandenack both had a team-high six rebounds.
-Glenn, Abbie Skupa, and Ashley Heyen all were perfect at the free-throw line.
-Sami Tucker and Heyen both were credited with two blocks, tied for a game-high with SC's Julia Wagoner.
-For the second consecutive game, NWU attempted more free-throws than its opponent.
-The Prairie Wolves outshot the Storm from the field 36.0 percent to 34.2 percent.
-Simpson's Jenna Taylor scored a game-best 30 points as Taylor and Hattie Rhodes both grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

What's Next
Nebraska Wesleyan continues its road trip as it travels to Dubuque, Iowa for a match-up with the University of Dubuque on Saturday, January 30. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. between the Spartans and Prairie Wolves.
