Women Battle Kohawks to the End in 79-65 Road Loss

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan shot over 50 percent from the field in the second half and pulled within five points late in the third quarter but it wasn't enough as Coe College held off the Prairie Wolves 79-65 in American Rivers Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night (Feb. 5) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
 
The Prairie Wolves trailed by 15 points at halftime then caught fire from the floor in the third quarter to make a run.  NWU missed only six total shots in the 3rd period (9-15) hitting 2-3 from 3-point land as they cut the lead to 54-49 with only 1:51 remaining the quarter.
 
Coe then ended the period on a 7-0 run to take a 12-point advantage into the fourth quarter.  NWU got within eight points, three different times in the final quarter but that was as close as they could get.  The Kohawks were on point with their long range shooting making 4-6 3-point attempts in the final period.
 
For the game, Coe made 11-24 from 3-point range for 46.8 percent.  The Prairie Wolves converted only 4-17 of their long range shots.
 
Madeline Wilkins hit seven of the Coe 3-point attempts finishing with 23 points.  Wilkins was 7-13 from long distance.  Jackie Feldt led the Kohawks with 25 points and six assists, making 12-20 from the floor.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan was led in scoring by Caitlin Navratil who had 18 points on 8-18 shooting.  McKenna Griess got the start for the Prairie Wolves and responded with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds.
 
The Prairie Wolves ended the game shooting 42.4 percent overall and had five players score at least eight points in the balanced offensive attack.
 
NWU will now prepare for another long road trip this Saturday at Luther College.
