LINCOLN, Neb. – Central College overcame an 18-point deficit to rally back for a 82-75 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan University in American Rivers Conference women's basketball action on Saturday (Feb. 15) at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.
Caitlin Navratil scored a game-high 34 points but it wasn't enough for the Prairie Wolves who were unable to hold off the Dutch late rally.
NWU jumped out to a 23-12 lead after the first quarter, hitting five 3-pointers in the opening 10 minutes. They maintained that 11 advantage going into the halftime break. Midway through the 2
nd quarter the Prairie Wolves were ahead by as many as 18 points. Navratil was a big reason for the big half scoring 23 points in the half, making 5-5 from 3-point range.
In the second half, the Dutch got within single digits for the first time since the opening period then ended the third quarter on a 7-0 run to make it 60-57 to start the fourth quarter.
Central got their first lead since 2-0 on a basket by Kelsea Hurley with 7:08 left in the game. The Prairie Wolves answered several times and held a 71-70 lead on a basket by Navratil.
The game was tied at 75-75 with 1:55 to play after the third straight basket from Navratil. Central hit a 3-pointer on their next possession and the Prairie Wolves would go scoreless the rest of the way. A moving screen violation, two missed free throws and a missed 3-pointer would result in three empty trips down the floor.
Navratil had a huge day finishing with 34 points on 14-21 shooting from the field. She was a perfect 5-5 on 3-pointers, not attempting one in the second half. She also pulled down five rebounds and dished out four assists.
Mikenzie Delgado made four 3-pointers to score 18 points and
Sami Tucker also reached double figures with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Central was led by Kelsea Hurley who had a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
