COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado College scored 29 first quarter points jumping out to an early 19-point lead and they maintained that advantage the rest of the way defeating Nebraska Wesleyan 88-70 in women's basketball action on Friday night in Colorado Springs, Colo.
NWU went five minutes without a field goal in the opening quarter with the Tigers going on a 12-3 run during that stretch to get the double digit lead and the Prairie Wolves never got within single digits the rest of the way.
The Tigers (1-3) made five 3-pointers in the opening quarter that allowed them to get the big advantage. NWU shot only 21.1 percent in the first period (4-19) going 0-5 from 3-point range.
In the second half the Prairie Wolves did try to make a late push, outscoring the Tigers 18-9 in the third quarter as they got as close as 12 points at 60-48. CC was 8-12 from the field and 8-9 at the free throw line in the 4
th quarter to prevent NWU from getting any closer.
McKenzie Gerts was 5-10 from 3-point range scoring 29 points with nine rebounds to lead Colorado College. As a team, the Tigers shot 47.7 percent making 9-21 from 3-point land. The Tigers held a 50-34 advantage in rebounding.
Caitlin Navratil had another big night for the Prairie Wolves scoring 27 points with seven rebounds and six assists to lead the team.
McKenzie Teten came off the bench to score 16 points as the other player in double figures. Teten was 3-5 from 3-point range.
