NWU Volleyball Picks Up 3-1 Win at Luther College

DECORAH, Iowa – The Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball team completed a successful conference weekend on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 26) by winning 3-1 at Luther College in American Rivers Conference action.
 
With the victory, the Prairie Wolves have now won six straight matches and put themselves into position to potentially host a first round match in the A-R-C Postseason Tournament.  NWU has one conference regular season match remaining next Wednesday (Oct. 30) at home versus Simpson College.  NWU now sits at 16-7 overall, and 4-3 in league play.
 
The 16 victories are the most by a NWU volleyball team since 2014.  Their 4-3 league record puts them in a tie for third in the conference standings.
 
NWU won on Saturday afternoon in scores of 25-20, 19-25, 25-13, 25-19. 
 
Set one was dominated by the Prairie Wolves as they pounded out 17 kills and a .342 hitting percentage.  In the second set of the day, Luther had 15 kills and NWU only had nine.
 
They picked up their attack percentage the final two sets, hitting .429 in a dominant set three with 14 kills then closed the match with 15 kills in the fourth set.
 
Hannah Bellinghausen led the Prairie Wolves with 14 kills hitting .278.  The other player in double figures was Whitney Jensen who had 13 kills and an impressive .462 hitting percentage with only one error in 26 attempts.  Jensen finished with a double-double adding 11 digs.
 
Callie Kohl equaled Jensen's total of 11 digs as one of three players to reach double figures in digs.  Kennady Klein finished with 10 digs.  Cassidy Plooster just missed a double-double with 36 assists and nine digs.
 
Luther drops to 7-19 overall and 2-5 in league play.  Sydnee Schreier led the Norse with 12 kills.
