Volleyball Sweeps Simpson to Secure Home Court in Postseason

LINCOLN, Neb. – With home court in the postseason on the line, the Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball team made quick work of Simpson College on Wednesday night (Oct. 30) in the final regular season home match of the year at Snyder Arena in Lincoln.  The Prairie Wolves swept the Storm 3-0 in the last American Rivers Conference match of the year.
 
NWU has now won seven straight matches and the victory secures home court for the Prairie Wolves in the quarterfinals of the A-R-C Postseason Tournament that begins on Nov. 5.  Official pairings for the tournament will be released late Wednesday night by the conference office.
 
The Prairie Wolves were dominant in the first two sets winning 25-17, 25-16 to take the early advantage.  NWU had 25 kills in the first two sets hitting well over .200 while Simpson had a total of 18 errors in the two sets.
 
Simpson would not go away and they fought hard in the third set forcing the Prairie Wolves to call a pair of timeouts.  The Storm led 21-17 before NWU would get on a run and excite the home crowd.
 
Six straight points by the Prairie Wolves turned the score around to 23-21 in favor of NWU.  Cora Svoboda had a pair of kills and a block during the scoring run to spark the Prairie Wolves.
 
Two points by Simpson tied the match at 23-23 then Svoboda responded with a monster kill giving NWU set point.
 
Kelsie Stovall punctuated the victory with an ace serve to send the Prairie Wolves fans home happy.
 
NWU had 41 total kills with a .233 hitting percentage.  Whitney Jensen, this week's conference player of the week, led the way with 10 kills hitting .444.  Svoboda and Nicole Gonzales each had seven kills.  Svoboda hit .500 and had four blocks.  Cassidy Plooster finished with a team-high 18 assists while Anna Gottsch had a double-double of 16 assists and 11 digs.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan moves to 17-7 overall with their seventh straight win, the most wins since 2014.
