LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan University football team will return to Abel Stadium/Weary Field on Saturday (Oct. 19) to host Coe College in American Rivers Conference football action. Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Kohawks is set for 1 pm.
Nebraska Wesleyan now has a 3-2 overall and 1-2 record in American Rivers play heading into Saturday's game. The Prairie Wolves are looking to snap their current two-game losing streak after dropping a 61-7 game last Saturday at No. 11 Wartburg College. Both of the Prairie Wolves losses have been to teams ranked or receiving votes in the NCAA III Top 25 poll.
Coe has won four of their last five games on their way to a 4-2 overall record. The Kohawks are 3-1 in American Rivers Conference play with their lone loss coming against University of Dubuque. Last Saturday Coe won 27-13 over Buena Vista University, a team that Nebraska Wesleyan defeated 37-16 earlier this year.
This is the fourth meeting in football between the Prairie Wolves and Kohawks since the teams became conference foes. Coe has won all three previous matchups, including two wins at Abel Stadium.
It will be a battle between the top passing team in the American Rivers Conference and the top passing defense in the league. NWU is averaging 300 yards a game through the air, while Coe is allowing only 158 passing yards a contest. Coe has held three opponents under 13 points this season and they rank 1
st in the A-R-C in total defense.
NWU was held to a season low 202 yards of total offense last week while allowing the most points they have given up in an American Rivers conference game since joining the new league. They hope to put that game behind them and get back on the winning track this Saturday in the friendly confines of Abel Stadium.
Saturday's game will be broadcast live locally on LNK TV Education channel and streamed live via webcast courtesy of the NWU Sports Network. The games can be found on Allo Channel 23, Charter Spectrum 1303 or Windstream Kinetic 1080. Jeff Motz and John Harris will be handling the broadcast duties.
In addition, the game can be heard on KFOR 1240 AM/103.3 FM or online at kfornow.com with Dick Janda calling the action.
