LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan dropped its second home American Rivers Conference match of the year as Wartburg College came into Snyder Arena and swept the Prairie Wolves 3-0 on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 29).
The Prairie Wolves dropped to 0-2 in conference play and 5-9 overall with their second straight three set loss at home. Wartburg moves to 8-8 overall and they improve to 2-1 in conference action.
Wartburg won the first set 25-18, then took set two 26-24 before sealing the win with a 25-18 win in the third set.
The Knights used a big run to pull away in the first set. NWU got ahead 10-7 early, but Wartburg reeled off six straight points to get ahead 13-10. They would never trail again earning the 25-18 win.
In the second set, the Knights led 18-12 before the Prairie Wolves started to mount the comeback. NWU pulled within one point twice, then an error from Knights tied the match at 23-23. Wartburg recorded a kill to get ahead 24-23, but another error tied it back at 24-24. Unfortunately, a service error gave the Knights another set point and they closed it out with a kill.
NWU got up early in the third set but Wartburg ran off five of the next six points to get ahead 11-7 and they never trailed again.
Olivia Schneider led the Prairie Wolves with eight kills as NWU hit .103 as a team.
Lizzie Saale had a team-high 24 digs, while
Kelsie Stovall dished out 20 assists.
Wartburg finished with 48 total kills and a .250 hitting percentage. Lizzy Blough had a double-double of 15 kills and 15 digs.
