NWU Receives #4 Seed for IIAC Postseason Softball Tournament

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan received the No. 4 seed for the 2018 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Postseason Softball Tournament when the pairings were officially set late Tuesday night.

The Prairie Wolves will face the No. 5 seed Loras College on Friday afternoon (May 4) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  First pitch is set for 2:00 pm in the opening game of the tournament at Clark Softball Field.

Coe College is the No. 1 seed and the host school for the 6-team tournament.  The winner of the NWU-Loras game will face Coe on Saturday morning at 11:00 am.  No. 3 Luther College will take on No. 6 Simpson at 4:30 pm on Friday in the other opening round game.  Central is the No. 2 seed and awaits the winner of that matchup.

NWU, which finished the season 21-17 overall and 8-8 in IIAC play, will be making their 1st appearance at the IIAC Postseason Softball Tournament.  The Prairie Wolves are playing in their 6th postseason conference tournament, winning at least one game in all five appearances for a 7-10 overall record.

The IIAC Postseason Tournament is a single elimination 6-team tournament with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament.  NWU has never qualified for a national softball tournament.

Nebraska Wesleyan won both meetings over Loras in the regular season finale on April 28 in Dubuque, Iowa to secure the Prairie Wolves postseason spot.  NWU won three of their last four games to earn the No. 4 seed.

Coach Mary Yori, in her 3rd season leading the Prairie Wolves, has her team in the conference postseason tournament for a second time in her three years.
