Box Score 4 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team posted run ruled shutout victories in four of the final games of their spring break trip to Florida as the Prairie Wolves finished the trip with an impressive 9-3 record.
On Thursday, the Prairie Wolves made quick work of Morrisville State, 8-0, in five innings then avenged an earlier loss with a 11-0 shutout win over Dominican University. To close their trip on Friday, NWU lost 3-0 to Penn State-Behrend but capped the trip with an 8-0 win over Minnesota-Morris.
Against Morrisville State, two Prairie Wolves pitchers combined for a 1-hit shutout.
Jessie Briley threw the first four innings, allowing just one hit with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Abbie Hillmer pitched the final scoreless inning with a strikeout.
Katie Stanzel was 2-2 with a home run and two RBI to lead the Prairie Wolves offense.
Destiny Indra was 2-3 with a double, two RBI and a stolen base.
After losing 3-1 to Dominican earlier in the week, the Prairie Wolves got sweet revenge in the second meeting blowing out DU 11-0 in five innings. NWU scored one run in the 1
st inning when
Jordan Arndt got an RBI single.
The lead stayed 1-0 until the 4
th inning when the Prairie Wolves erupted for five runs.
Kailey Meyer blasted a grand slam for the big hit of the inning. They scored five more in the top of the 5
th inning.
Jade Mendoza hit a 3-run double for the big hit in the 5
th inning.
Meyer got the complete game shutout to improve to 4-2 on the mound. She allowed just three hits and struck out six.
Penn State-Behrend ended the Prairie Wolves winning streak with a 3-0 win on Friday afternoon.
Jessie Briley had allowed just one hit through the first five innings, then PSU-Behrend scored three in the 6
th inning, including a big 2-run double with two outs to break the game open.
NWU couldn't get any offense going with just three hits in the game. Three times runners were in scoring position, but the Prairie Wolves couldn't get the clutch hit.
The Prairie Wolves then bounced back to close out the trip with a 8-0 shutout victory over Minnesota-Morris.
