SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team notched their third win of the week and sixth straight victory as they easily rolled to an 81-44 win at Robert Morris-Springfield on Friday night (Dec. 21) in Springfield, Ill.
NWU held Robert-Morris to only four made field goals in the opening half and RMU finished the game shooting just 16.2 percent for the entire game (11-68). The Prairie Wolves had all 10 players score in the game to improve to 7-3 on the season.
In the first quarter the Prairie Wolves jumped out quick getting ahead 11-0 just two minutes into the game. They led 29-14 after one quarter and put it on cruise control the rest of the way. NWU limited Robert Morris to only five points in the second quarter as they were 1-19 from the floor, while NWU poured in 20 points to lead by 30 points at the break.
Nebraska Wesleyan's bench played a lot of minutes in the second half and they outscored RMU 42-6 in bench points, with two Prairie Wolves reaching double figures off the bench.
Ten 3-pointers highlighted the NWU offensive performance with six different Prairie Wolves connecting from long distance. NWU held a +13 advantage in rebounding and blocked a season-high 16 shots. The 16 blocked shots are the most by an American Rivers conference team this season and the 3
rd highest single game total among all NCAA III women's teams.
Caitlin Navratil once again led the Prairie Wolves in scoring with 19 points. Navratil dished out seven assists and pulled down six rebounds, but she was far from a one-person show on Friday.
Erika Goracke had her best game of the season breaking out of a shooting slump to score 15 points, including 3-5 from 3-point range of the bench.
Sami Tucker scored 11 points with eight rebounds and eight blocked shots. Bailey Hallgren Meehan led the team with 10 rebounds to go along with her seven points.
NWU will take a few days off for the holidays then return to action on December 30 when they host Midland University in Snyder Arena.
