Box Score STORM LAKE, Iowa – It came down to the final regular season match with Nebraska Wesleyan needing a victory to keep their season alive and the Prairie Wolves men's soccer team rose to the occasion as they posted a 2-0 shutout at Buena Vista University in the final American Rivers Conference match of the regular season on Tuesday night (Oct. 23).
With their victory, Nebraska Wesleyan earns the No. 6 seed in the American Rivers Conference Postseason Tournament that begins on Saturday. The Prairie Wolves improve their record to 8-8 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
NWU got on their board right before halftime when
Aroque Bryant scored with 11 seconds remaining in the half. That was the first goal for any team and gave NWU the 1-0 lead heading into intermission.
Leading scorer
Jake Kennedy was able to extend the Prairie Wolves lead in the second half as he scored in the 58
th minute. Kennedy notched his team-leading 8
th goal of the season giving NWU a comfortable advantage with 30 minutes remaining.
From there it was the Nebraska Wesleyan defense that held up and didn't allow Buena Vista to cut into the lead. The Beavers had only one shot on goal during the match as the Prairie Wolves posted their fifth shutout victory of the year. Samuel Lesoing was credited with the shutout victory as the Prairie Wolves goalkeeper.
Nebraska Wesleyan ended the match with 12 total shot attempts, compared to seven for the Beavers.
Official pairings for the 2018 American Rivers Conference Postseason Tournament will be announced late Tuesday night after all regular season matches are completed.
