WAVERLY, Iowa – The Nebraska Wesleyan volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the Wartburg Classic in Waverly, Iowa. The Prairie Wolves opened the day with a 3-0 loss to University of St. Thomas, then bounced back with a 3-0 sweep over University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
In the victory against UW-Platteville, NWU swept the Pioneers in scores of 25-16, 25-14, 25-19. NWU moved to 7-12 overall with their second win of the week.
The Prairie Wolves hit .213 as a team in the victory with 40 total kills, while UW-Platteville was held to just .084 swing percentage.
Kierra Harder posted another double-double leading the team with 11 kills and 10 digs.
Hannah Bellinghausen and
Karrie Sestak both had eight kills.
Lizzie Saale led the Prairie Wolves with 19 total digs.
Anna Gottsch just missed a double-double with 29 assist and nine digs.
Platteville was led by Cassie Johnson with 13 kills.
St. Thomas defeated the Prairie Wolves for the second time this season with a 3-0 sweep in scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-21. UST improved to 17-7 overall on the season.
NWU hit only .099 in the loss to the Tommies with only 26 kills. St. Thomas had 48 kills in the match hitting .315.
Bellinghausen and
Taylor Stout led NWU with seven kills. Saale had a team-high 13 digs with
Cassidy Plooster and Gottsch both handing out 10 assists.
