Wolves Set for Road Contest at Loras on Saturday

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan football team will look to put their homecoming loss from one week ago behind them when they return to the field this Saturday (Oct. 13) traveling to Dubuque, Iowa to face Loras College in American Rivers Conference football action.  Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Duhawks is set for 1 pm at the Rock Bowl.

Nebraska Wesleyan is in search of their first conference win of the season and the Prairie Wolves are primed to snap their current four-game losing streak.  NWU, with a record of 1-5 overall and 0-4 in A-R-C play, battled hard last Saturday dropping a 35-29 game to nationally-ranked and undefeated Central College.

Loras College brings a 3-2 overall record in to their homecoming game this Saturday.  The Duhawks are 2-1 in conference play, with both league wins coming against opponents who have yet to win a conference game this season.  Loras brings lots of momentum into this week after they rallied back from a 23-point second half deficit to defeat Buena Vista 44-40 on the road one week ago.

The Prairie Wolves offense got back on track last week piling up 482 yards of total offense using a balanced attack of 283 yards through the air and 199 on the ground.  Jonathan Curti passed for three touchdowns, including two to Bradley Pelkey for a second straight week.  Curti has thrown nine TD's with no interceptions in conference play.  Running back Shaka Taylor moved up to third on the NWU career rushing charts with his third 100-yard rushing game.

On defense, NWU was able to create a pair of turnovers on interceptions from Heath Hovendick and Alex Kruse.  They will be put to the test once again this week facing a Loras offense that is among the top three in the conference in total offense.

For Loras, quarterback Noah Sigwarth ranks second in the conference averaging 278.8 yards of total offense per game.  All-purpose back Elijah Thomas was Special Teams Player of the Week for his kick return prowess to go along with a 64-yard TD run.  Defensively, the Duhawks are last in the league in total defense but they do feature linebacker Chris Miller who tops the conference with 10.5 tackles for loss.

Fans not attending the game can hear all the action on KFOR 103.3 FM/1240 AM with NWU Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Janda on play-by-play.  The game can be heard online at kfornow.com.
