LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan University football team will host Loras College this Saturday (Sept. 30) in the 2017 Homecoming Football game at Abel Stadium. Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Duhawks is set for 1 pm.
Nebraska Wesleyan will look to earn their first win of the season as the Prairie Wolves enter the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup with a 0-4 overall record and a 0-2 mark in conference play. Loras College is off to a 2-2 start to the season, with a 1-1 mark in the Iowa Conference.
The Prairie Wolves are coming off a 52-27 loss to Central College last Saturday in Pella, Iowa. NWU jumped out to an early 17-0 lead, but the Dutch piled up over 600 yards and 52 points in the final 38 minutes of the game. It was the second straight week that NWU has held a double digit lead in the first half, but were unable to finish the game on top.
Loras has already surpassed their win total from one year ago when they ended the season at 1-9. The Duhawks are the top scoring team in the IIAC averaging 41 points per game. Last week, they set a new modern-day school scoring record rolling to a 73-34 victory over Buena Vista. The Duhawks scored touchdowns on their first four possessions and finished with ten total touchdowns.
At halftime of the homecoming game, the newest class of the NWU Athletic Hall of Fame will be introduced including two former Nebraska Wesleyan football players. Defensive lineman Justin Rice '97 and tight end Josh Beaver '00 will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. In addition, NWU football radio play-by-play announcer Dick Janda is receiving the Spirit of the Plainsmen Award.
