LINCOLN, Neb. – Playing its final home match of the season, the Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team dropped a hard fought match 5-4 to Concordia University on Wednesday afternoon (March 29) in Knight Fieldhouse on the NWU campus.
The match, which had to be moved indoors due to the rainy conditions outside, came down the end with two three set singles matches. Concordia won four of the six singles matches to come out one ahead of the Prairie Wolves in the end.
NWU got out to a 2-1 lead winning two of three doubles matches.
Bridget McKeegan and
Madi Hinshaw were 8-3 winners over Katie Hertz and Alison Ebel in the No. 1 doubles match. The same result occurred at No. 2 doubles where
Torey Kogel and
Victoria Van De Veer won 8-3 over Annie Horn and Kirsten Wagner. The Bulldogs won the No. 3 doubles match 8-1.
In singles play, the Prairie Wolves picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. McKeegan continued her solid day with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ebel in the match between the team's top two players.
The most exciting match of the day was at No. 4 singles where
Jaime Bridges came away with a thrilling 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 win over Katie Hertz.
Concordia also got a three set win at No. 2 singles where Horn edged Kogel 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 to help seal the victory.
NWU (3-16) will close out the 2016-17 season on April 12 with a match at NCAA Division II opponent Missouri Western State in St. Joseph, Mo.
