HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team went 1-3 on their annual spring break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina. A highlight for the Prairie Wolves was a 7-2 win over St. John Fisher College on March 7. NWU dropped matches to Ohio Northern, Baldwin Wallace and Roanoke. One other match was cancelled due to weather.
Nebraska Wesleyan now has a 3-13 overall record with three remaining dual matches the rest of the spring season.
In the victory over St. John Fisher, the Prairie Wolves won two of three doubles matched to get out to an early lead.
Bridget McKeegan and
Makinzie Vandewege won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles with
Madi Hinshaw and
Mackenzie Hyde winning 8-6 at the No. 3 doubles spot.
NWU was just as dominant in singles play winning five of the six matches. McKeegan won at No. 1 singles in straight sets,
Torey Kogel won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles,
Madi Hinshaw was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 3 singles and
Jaime Bridges won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. The most competitive match was at No. 6 with
Makinzie Vandewege winning 3-6, 7-5, 10-5 over Eileen Fleming at No. 6 singles.
The trip opened with a 9-0 loss to Ohio Northern University on March 5. The next day the weather didn't cooperate as the match with Randolph College was cancelled.
On March 9, NWU took on Baldwin Wallace University falling 7-2. BWU won all three doubles matches to take the early lead. NWU then came back to win two singles matches. McKeegan won 6-2, 6-2 over Imani Robinson for the first victory, then
Victoria Van De Veer was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 5 singles.
Nebraska Wesleyan closed out their trip on March 10 against Roanoke College and suffered a 8-1 setback. The lone victory for the Prairie Wolves came at No. 2 singles with
Torey Kogel getting a 6-2, 6-3 win over Colette Wibaut.
