LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan scored a season-high 95 points making cashing in on a season-best 14 made 3-pointers as the Prairie Wolves shot past Simpson College 95-71 in IIAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 4) at Snyder Arena.
NWU came out blazing making 6-9 from 3-point range in the 1
st quarter to go up 29-14 and they continued their hot shooting ways the rest of the game.
The 95 points scored were the most by a NWU women's basketball team since the season opener of the 2007-08 season and the most ever by a Nebraska Wesleyan women's team in a conference game.
Nebraska Wesleyan made their first five 3-pointers of the game, including two straight from
Kate Schulte to open the contest to make a statement early. NWU ended the game at 51.6 percent from the field and 14-27 on 3-pointers. Eight different players contributed to the 3-point success.
With the victory, NWU improves to 11-10 overall to equal their highest win total since the 2010-11 season. The win also keeps the Prairie Wolves right in the mix to earn a spot in the IIAC Postseason Tournament.
Addie Wetzel came off the bench to lead the Prairie Wolves with 23 points. Wetzel was 10-17 from the field, making 3-8 on 3-pointers to go along with five rebounds. Three other Prairie Wolves scored in double figures.
Caitlin Navratil had 18 points and five assists, with a very good shooting day. Navratil was 8-10 from the floor and 1-1 on 3-pointers. Katie Schulte had 14 points with three 3-pointers. Schulte added a team-high four steals with four assists.
Klaire Phillips was the other NWU player in double figures at 11 points.
Senior
Kylee Ashley was honored before the game and responded with her biggest performance of the year. Ashley was 3-4 from the field with eight points.
Noreen Morrow led Simpson with 21 points.
