LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team opened the spring portion of their schedule on Saturday (Feb. 18) and earned a 7-2 victory over Baker University. The Prairie Wolves also played William Jewell in the morning falling to the Cardinals 9-0.
With the unseasonably warm weather, NWU got to compete outdoors on the courts at Woods Park in February. The Prairie Wolves took advantage of the nice weather to earn their second win of the 2016-17 season.
The Prairie Wolves (2-9) won all three doubles matches over Baker (3-2) to jump ahead with a 3-0 advantage.

Torey Kogel won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, Jamie Bridges and
Victoria Van De Veer won 8-2 at No. 2 and
Mackenzie Hyde and
Makinzie Vandewege were 8-2 winners at No. 3 doubles.
NWU also had success in singles competition, winning four of the six matches. They were winners at No. 1 – No. 4, as Baker picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6.
McKeegan won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Kogel won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Bridges also was a straight sets winner at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1. The most competitive match of the day was at No. 4 singles where Van De Veer edges Kinsey Ford of Baker 6-7 (5), 6-2, 10-5.
William Jewell swept past the Prairie Wolves to start the day 9-0. The Cardinals won all six singles matches in straight sets and won the three doubles matches. At No. 3 doubles, the NWU tandem of Hyde/Vandewege dropped a close 9-8 decision to Meredith Houk and Caroline Lane.
NWU will next be in action on Feb. 28 when they host Tabor College.
