Blowout of Blackburn Gets NWU Women Back on Winning Track

CARLINVILLE, Ill.  – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team got back on the winning track in a big way on Thursday night (Dec. 7) as the Prairie Wolves blasted past Blackburn College 87-47 in Illinois.
 
NWU improved to 6-2 overall with the 40-point victory, while Blackburn drops to 1-6 on the season.
 
The Prairie Wolves built up a 42-28 lead at halftime then used a monster third quarter to pull away.  In the third quarter, NWU outscored the Beavers 31-6 to get up by 39 points.  In the third quarter, Blackburn was only 2-14 from the field while the Prairie Wolves made nine field goals and shot 11-13 at the free throw line.
 
Once again it was the Prairie Wolves pressure defense that was the difference in the game as NWU forced Blackburn into 30 total turnovers.  They also held the Beavers to a team shooting percentage of 31.3, including 2-15 from 3-point range.
 
Nebraska Wesleyan finished the game at 40.5 percent from the field with seven 3-pointers.  NWU also held a +10 advantage in rebounding.
 
Addie Wetzel recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds leading all players in both categories.  She was 6-12 from the field in 23 minutes of action.  The only other player in double figures was Kate Schulte with 10 points to go along with her nine rebounds.
 
All 15 Prairie Wolves that suited up scored in the game as only one NWU player played more than 23 minutes in the game.  The Prairie Wolves also finished with 21 total assists on their 32 field goals.
 
Blackburn did not have a player score in double figures as they were led by Kate Smith with seven points.
