Women Roll Past Rams 90-52

LINCOLN, Neb . – Nebraska Wesleyan jumped out to a 13-0 lead holding Cornell College scoreless for nearly the first five minutes of the game as the Prairie Wolves rolled to a 90-52 victory over the Rams on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 16) in women's basketball action at Snyder Arena.
 
NWU improves to 7-2 on the season and remains unbeaten in non-conference play.  Cornell falls to 5-4 on the season.
 
The Prairie Wolves led 13-0 before Cornell finally scored at the 5:10 mark of the game, then NWU extended the lead to 18-2 as the Rams didn't score again until just over 2 minutes remaining in the quarter.  NWU held a 22-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
 
In the second quarter, NWU was on fire from the field shooting 64.3 percent, making 5-7 from 3-point range.  NWU outscored Cornell by five points in the second quarter to lead by 17 at the break.
 
The hot shooting continued in the third quarter when the Prairie Wolves made 62.5 percent from the floor.  Cornell made only 5-16 in the third quarter and 3-18 in the final period as the Prairie Wolves pulled away outscoring the Rams by 21 in the second half.
 
NWU ended the game with an outstanding shooting percentage of 53.2 hitting 9-24 from 3-point land and 15-19 at the free throw line.  A big advantage for the Prairie Wolves came on the glass where they were +17 in rebounding.  NWU also forced Cornell into 21 turnovers, scoring 26 points off the turnovers in the full court press.
 
Kate Schulte was very effective on the offensive end of the floor scoring 20 points on 6-8 shooting with 7-7 at the free throw line.  Schulte had six rebounds and four steals in the win.
 
Addie Wetzel was a perfect 7-7 from the floor to score 17 points.  Wetzel also led the team with nine rebounds.  Caitlin scored 13 points with five assists and four steals, while Klaire Phillips came off the bench to score 10 points.
 
Cornell shot only 27.8 as a team, making 8-41 from 3-point land and the Rams didn't have any player score in double figures.
 
NWU is back at home on Monday when they host Iowa Wesleyan University at 6 pm.
