Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women Start Season With Two Wins

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team got off to their first 2-0 start to a year since the 2010-11 season as the Prairie Wolves closed their road trip to Minnesota with a 63-44 victory over University of Northwestern on Saturday (Nov. 18) in St. Paul, Minn.

NWU held the Eagles to just seven first quarter points as they jumped out to a 16-7 lead then extended it to 35-18 at the break as Northwestern made only seven first half field goals.  The Prairie Wolves then outscored Northwestern by 10 in the third quarter to get ahead by as many as 28 points as they cruised to the win.

Once again the Prairie Wolves struggled to shoot the basketball, shooting just 30.9 percent from the floor, but they made up for that with defensive pressure forcing the Eagles into 25 total turnovers.

Caitlin Navratil was the lone NWU player to reach double figures in scoring as it was a balanced offensive attack for the Prairie Wolves.  Navratil scored 15 points, making 5-10 from the field and 4-4 at the free throw line.

Nine other NWU players got into the scoring column with Kate Schulte, Addie Wetzel and Bailey Hallgren Meehan all scoring eight points.  Wetzel had another huge game on the glass pulling down a game-high 16 rebounds.

Northwestern outshot NWU but only hit 34.6 percent of their shots including 5-22 from the field.  Amy Berglund led the Eagles with 14 points and four assists.  Audrey Letto had 10 points as the other Northwestern player in double figures.

Nebraska Wesleyan will next be in action over Thanksgiving weekend at the Colorado College classic.
