The Nebraska Wesleyan University football team will return to Abel Stadium/Weary Field on Saturday (Oct. 14) to host the University of Dubuque in Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football action. Kickoff between the Prairie Wolves and Spartans is set for 1 pm.
Nebraska Wesleyan now has a 0-6 overall and 0-4 record in IIAC play heading into Saturday's game. The Prairie Wolves are coming off a heartbreaking 41-38 overtime loss last week at Luther College. Saturday's game is the Prairie Wolves only home game in the month of October.
Dubuque was the preseason favorite to win the IIAC Championship coming off an 8-2 season one year ago. The Spartans started 3-0 this year but have since dropped two in a row to fall to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in IIAC action.
This is the second overall meeting between Nebraska Wesleyan and Dubuque in football, but the first time the Spartans have ever traveled to Lincoln, Neb. Last year the nationally-ranked Spartans defeated the Prairie Wolves 42-23.
NWU has been so close to cracking into the win column during conference play. In three of the four IIAC losses the Prairie Wolves have held double digit leads, including twice being up by 17 points. Last week NWU had a 17-point lead to start the fourth quarter but Luther scored 20 unanswered points in the comeback win.
The Spartans have been involved in three very close games in all of their IIAC games. All three of Dubuque's games have been decided by four points or less and the Spartans also surrendered a fourth quarter lead last week losing at home to Buena Vista 44-41.
Saturday's game can be seen live on the NWU athletics website with the broadcast courtesy of the NWU Sports Network produced by LNKTV Sports. The game will also be tape delayed throughout Lincoln on Windstream Channel 80, Charter Spectrum Channel 1303 and Allo Channel 23.
The game can also be heard live locally on KFOR 1240 AM or 103.3 FM with veteran broadcaster and NWU Hall of Famer Dick Janda calling the action. The game is also available online at kfornow.com.
