LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan jumped out to a 15-point first quarter lead and kept up the hot shooting throughout the game as the Prairie Wolves shot past Luther College 80-56 to earn their first Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory in women's basketball.
NWU improves to 7-5 overall and 1-3 in IIAC action in the win over the previous IIAC unbeaten and conference leader Luther who drops to 8-5, 4-1 IIAC.
The Prairie Wolves were excited to get back on their home court for the first time in over a month as they came out the gates firing on all cylinders. NWU was 4-7 from 3-point land in the first quarter and built up a 28-13 advantage.
They continued to build on the lead in the second quarter outscoring the Norse by seven to hold a 46-24 lead.
Nebraska Wesleyan held off any potential Luther College rallies in the second half as they cruised to the historic win.
A total team effort helped the Prairie Wolves to the win as they finished the game shooting 40.6 from the floor and 9-26 from 3-point land. NWU also took care of the basketball with only 10 turnovers the entire game.
Four different players scored in double figures to lead the Prairie Wolves attack.
Kate Schulte was 4-6 from 3-point land to score 16 points with seven rebounds and three steals.
Audra Thramer came off the bench to tie for the team lead with 16 points, as she was 6-9 from the floor with two 3-pointers.
Addie Wetzel recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, with
Caitlin Navratil narrowly missing a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Luther College shot only 29.9 percent from the floor for the game and had only one player in double figures. Madison Spence scored 12 points.
