CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Coe College outscored Nebraska Wesleyan by 12 points in the overtime period as the Kohawks outlasted the Prairie Wolves 97-85 in overtime in Iowa Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night (Jan. 11) at Eby Fieldhouse.
NWU trailed by just four points with 50 seconds left in the overtime period, but Coe used an 8-0 run in the final minute to seal the victory as the Prairie Wolves were unable to score late.
It was a crazy ending to regulation that forced the game into overtime.
Caitlin Navratil nailed two free throws to put NWU up 78-75 with just 18 seconds remaining. On the other end of the floor, Coe made two free throws to pull back within one point.
Needing to foul to get the ball back, the Kohawks fouled NWU center
Kylee Ashley with 14 seconds left. Ashley made 1-2 at the line to make the score 79-77. Coe came down and tied the game with a basket by Jenna Lehman with seven seconds left.
NWU had a chance to tie, but Navratil's shot was blocked to send the game to overtime.
The game was back and forth the whole way with the lead changing 21 times and the score was tied 11 times.
Nebraska Wesleyan led by five points at the end of the 1
st quarter, but trailed by one point 37-36 at halftime. NWU tied the game at 57-57 at the end of three quarters and both teams scored 22 points in the fourth quarter.
Freshman
Caitlin Navratil had a huge game to lead the Prairie Wolves. Navratil scored a career-high 27 points making 10-20 from the floor, 2-3 from 3-point range and 5-5 at the free throw line. Navratil also had six rebounds and three steals.
Kate Schulte scored 17 points with a team-high nine rebounds and sister
Ann Schulte came off the bench to score 13 points.
Coe College set a new school record with 33 made free throws, the 6th highest free total in NCAA III this season.
