LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan outscored University of Dubuque by 12 points in the 4
th quarter as the Prairie Wolves earned their second Iowa Conference victory of the year with a 76-66 victory over the Spartans on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 14) at Snyder Arena.
NWU improves to 8-6 overall and 2-4 in the IIAC, while Dubuque falls to 6-10 and 2-5 in IIAC.
The Prairie Wolves trailed by 10 points at halftime 36-26 but closed the gap to two points by outscoring Dubuque 23-15 in the third quarter.
NWU then tied the game three different times in the 4
th quarter before going on a big run. Back to back baskets from
Caitlin Navratil started a 12-0 run for NWU as they broke open a tie game into a 68-56 advantage with just under three minutes left in the game. The Prairie Wolves were 6-8 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the victory.
As a team, NWU shot 7-13 from the field in the 4
th quarter and ended the game at 38.4 percent. It was a stark contrast from the first half, where NWU was only 4-18 in the 2
nd quarter.
Five different players scored in double figures in the balanced scoring attack on the day for NWU.
Addie Wetzel led the way posting a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Klaire Phillips and
Caitlin Navratil both had 15 points,
Kate Schulte had 13 points and five assists with
Madi Hinshaw scoring 10.
Dubuque was led by Emily Brinker with 15 points and 9 rebounds.
