NWU Receives #7 Seed For GPAC Softball Tournament

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Nebraska Wesleyan received the No. 7 seed for the 2016 GPAC Postseason Softball Tournament when the pairings were announced late Monday night.
 
The Prairie Wolves will face the No. 2 seed Doane College on Wednesday afternoon in Crete, Nebraska.  First pitch is set for Noon.  Other teams playing in the bracket in Crete are the No. 3 seed Dakota Wesleyan University and the No. 6 seed Dordt.  This is the second year that the GPAC is using a two-bracket format for the postseason.  Morningside College is the No. 1 seed and will host the other four-team bracket.
 
NWU, which finished 18-17 overall and 10-12 in GPAC play, will be making their 5th appearance at the GPAC Postseason Tournament.  The Prairie Wolves are 4-8 overall in postseason play, winning at least one game in all four appearances.
 
Doane won both meetings over the Prairie Wolves in the regular season winning 2-0 and 5-1 on April 19 in Crete.  The winner of the game faces the winner of DWU-Dordt at 2 pm.  The loser of both games will play an elimination game at 4 pm on Wednesday.
 
The Doane and Morningside bracket winners will meet on Saturday, May 7 in the GPAC Softball Tournament Championship series at the highest remaining seed.  The final series will be the best two out of three format.  Morningside has secured the league's first berth to the NAIA Opening Round, while the GPAC Tournament Champion will receive the second berth.  If Morningside wins the GPAC Tournament, then the tournament runner-up will receive the second GPAC berth to the NAIA Opening Round.
