LINCOLN, Neb. – The conference leading Nebraska Wesleyan women's tennis team continues to roll through the GPAC as they defeated Hastings College 8-1 on Saturday at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The Broncos won the men's match 9-0.
With the victory, the NWU women are now 11-9 overall and 6-0 in GPAC play. The Prairie Wolves have won eight straight matches this season and now have 14 straight GPAC regular season dual victories dating back to the 2014 season.
NWU went 2-1 in doubles play getting the victory at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Katherine Ternent and
Natalie Cech remained undefeated on the year with a 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Also remaining unbeaten in GPAC play was
Bridget McKeegan and
Alex Rieke with a 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Hastings got their only win of the dual with a 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles as Elizbeth Harlow and Jessica Zach defeated
Torey Kogel and Tori Van De Veer.
The Prairie Wolves put together solid performances in singles action taking all six matches. Ternent won in straight sets at No. with McKeegan, Kogel and Jaimie Bridges also getting straight set singles wins. Cech rallied back for a 4-6, 7-5, 10-3 win at No. 2 and Rieke edged her opponent 6-0, 4-6, 10-8 at No. 5.
For the men, Hastings was a 9-0 winner as the Prairie Wolves are still looking for their first GPAC win on the men's side. NWU now sits at 7-13 overall and 0-4 in GPAC play.
The most competitive match on the men's side came at No. 6 singles as Matt Case of Hastings held on to defeat
Matheus Bustamante from NWU 7-6, 7-6.
Nebraska Wesleyan men close out the regular season on Saturday (April 30) when they travel to Sioux City, Iowa to face Morningside College.
